Re: University STEM Academy (USA) Intake Notification
Dear Parents:
We invite your scholar to join the University STEM Academy (USA), in collaboration with the Riverside County NAACP Youth Counciland the Riverside Unified School District (RUSD),for a one-week Intensive Robotics Summer Camp, June 17th to June 21st. USA is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program designed to stimulate more interest, and to enhance performance, in technical subjects by students in the Black community.
This Summer USA will offer a Camp that focuses on Healthcare, Medicine, Algorithmic, and Computational Thinking via coding, robotics, and telemedicine projects. Having had much success with PORPOISE Robotic-STEM education, and tremendous success separately with the USA Healthcare Technology program, we are incredibly optimistic that joining the two will engage the young participants (from all walks of life) and catapult them into going to college. In addition to encouraging a sizeable number in majoring in physical and biological careers. Although the program is a non-profit venture, there is a nominal fee of $200for each student. This fee covers all lunches, educational materials, and awards. However, for students selected through a partnership with the Riverside County NAACP Youth Council, and the Riverside Unified School District (RUSD), the fee is paid.
The class schedule for the one-week summer camp is as follows:

Three field trips are being planned. The three tentativetrips are as follows:
Each trip will be conducted during the times allocated to the Mini Medical School (see Schedule above). The visit to the Brain Game Center, although located near the UCR campus, will require that we travel by bus.
On SaturdayJune 15th,the USA will be conducting an intake sessionat 1:00pm at the University of California, Riverside campus (900 University Ave, Riverside, CA 92521), in room 3210 of the Psychology Building, which is located next to Lot #6. Parking is free, and signs will be posted. On that date, parents and potential participants will learn about the program curriculum, and register. Forth-five (45) students will be selected from the applicants to be a part of this exciting program. Priority is given to the 40 scholars selected by the RUSD. The remaining slots will be filled on a first come basis. Returning and new scholars are asked to please go to the website: http://universitystemacademy.com to sign up at https://universitystemacademy2019.brownpapertickets.com, or straight to the latter email address.
A celebration demonstrating what our scholars have learned is planned for the evening of the final day of the program on Friday, June 21st.
We are looking forward to seeing our returning scholars and to meeting new scholars.

- The “Neil A. Campbell Science Learning Laboratory” home to “The Dynamic Genome,” a laboratory-intensive learning program. Scholars will be exposed to the rudiments of DNA testing.
- UCR Center for the Advanced Neuroimaging (UCR CAN), where the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine is located. Scholars will be introduced to the purpose and basic operations of the machine
- The University of California Riverside Brain Game Center for Mental Fitness and Well-Being. Scholars will have an opportunity to sample the game software that is instrumented to optimize human brain processes that translate to performance in real-life activities.
